The place
A swell froze at the moment it broke, and never came down. The crew sails INTO the bay and the wall of it closes overhead on three sides -- the ruler for the scale is your own mast against the curl. The anchorage inside is flat ice, dead calm, sheltered from every wind, which is why the ice-cutters work here and why they will not talk about the hull standing upright in the wall with its rigging still set. Grandeur first, then the wrong note: this is a harbour that is one thaw from being open water again.
