Crews & respawning

Captaincy, return points & wipes

A crew is the unit that keeps an expedition alive. Ordinary deaths return one pirate; a wipe ends what the whole crew was doing.

Bulletin-board crews

Every open player-hosted crew flyer appears on every connected town bulletin board, regardless of channel.

A crewless player can found and name a crew from the board. Its captain posts a valid flyer title before body and recruiting controls become available.

Crewless players apply to a selected flyer with their own written letter. The selected crew's captain accepts or denies that exact application from the board.

Captains edit the flyer, open or close recruiting, read applications and see the roster. Every member can leave; captaincy passes to the longest-serving remaining hand.

Ordinary deaths

A crewmate returns after 10 seconds. A captain returns after 75 seconds.

A dead captain takes much longer to return. Crewmate timers pause completely until the captain is alive again.

Return point: The last deployed ship you owned and stood aboard; otherwise the coast nearest your living captain.

Crew wipes

If every member of a crew is dead at once, the crew wipes. A solo death is also a wipe.

A wipe sends everyone to the nearest safe-zone town and ends the current attempt.

A wipe is the hard reset. Normal deaths preserve the crew's position; a wipe deliberately sends the expedition back to civilization.
