THE GREAT STUMP is a jungle island in the deep. It rises to 340 m and runs ordinary for encounters at density 1. 4% of its spawns carry a pirate captain.

The place

The mesa in the middle of the jungle is not a mesa. It is flat because it was cut, it is round because it grew, and the four gorges running from under it to the sea are roots. Stand at the rim and the whole canopy is BELOW you and still nowhere near the height the rest of this thing must have reached. Wonder, then the unease of the obvious question nobody on the island will answer: what took it down, and when, and is the stump still alive. The top is the only open sky on the island and everything that lives here climbs to it at some point in its life.
